COURSE RECORD SET AND 1ST WIN OF 2018 SEASON
YOUTH WILL BE SERVED.
February 2, 2018 Bakersfield, CA –
On Friday, Lawless Alan, #25, throttled his way to break the course record smashing it by 2/100s of a second and capturing his first win of his Sophomore Season at the 4th Annual Winter Showdown which was broadcasted nationally by SPEED 51 TV.
Positioned in the outside lane to start Lawless jumped the entire field and never looked back. He led the entire race and when it was over, his 2nd career victory and a new course record was his. The team erupted along with a crowd captured with all the drama of witnessing first hand a young driver in only his 2nd professional season make history.
“The car was tuned perfectly, and I knew if I could capture the lead I would be hard to catch”, summarized Lawless while standing on the podium. After the preliminaries no adjustments were made to the car.
Pit crew lead mechanic, Mike, echoed the same assessment, “We asked Lawless if he needed any changes and he confidently declined all of our suggestions. So, we took his lead. It is a bit unusual that a driver at his age has obtained that much experience to know when the car fits the track and his racing style.” In the end Lawless was right and right where he wanted to be at the top of the podium.
Adjustments
Lawless Alan was coming off his first career victory last season on September 9th, 2017 at Irwindale Speedway. In his rookie season in NASCAR Late Models he had a win, 6 podiums, a dozen Top 5s and more than 20 Top 10s. He was first among rookies in points at Irwindale Raceway finishing 5th overall, was the only rookie to win a race and was ranked in the Top 40 by NASCAR in points out of more than 500 drivers nationally.

Race Summary:
Lawless Alan #26 Loses Cylinder but finds a way to finish near top 10
In only his second Trans Am road course and the first time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Lawless Alan #26 finished 11th out of 28 drivers on Saturday June 16, 2018. This despite losing a cylinder with only 15 laps remaining. He found everything he could on those last 15 laps and battled ferociously to break into the top 10. During a practice session, a similar cylinder condition was first exposed. The Mike Cope Racing pit crew replaced the wiring harness for the cylinders. Unfortunately during the last segment of the race the problem resurfaced.
Mechanical issues were not the only issues affecting the drivers. The 95+ degree heat and humidity pushed the drivers to the absolute edge. A few drivers had to pull off due to heat exhaustion. The drivers that did manage to finish need help getting out of their racecars and additional hydration before moving. It was just brutal on the race track.
Dasher Lawless held a sponsor/vendor appreciation day where over 50 people were on hand to share in the experience at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. For many it was their first time in the pit area and seeing a NASCAR Race up close. Sam Bowser Director of Manufacturing at Dasher Lawless summarized, “This was absolutely fantastic. The engines were so loud you could not hear yourself talk. And it was just cool to be at such an iconic race track. It was a great afternoon.”
