Race Summary:
Lawless Alan #26 Loses Cylinder but finds a way to finish near top 10
In only his second Trans Am road course and the first time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Lawless Alan #26 finished 11th out of 28 drivers on Saturday June 16, 2018. This despite losing a cylinder with only 15 laps remaining. He found everything he could on those last 15 laps and battled ferociously to break into the top 10. During a practice session, a similar cylinder condition was first exposed. The Mike Cope Racing pit crew replaced the wiring harness for the cylinders. Unfortunately during the last segment of the race the problem resurfaced.
Mechanical issues were not the only issues affecting the drivers. The 95+ degree heat and humidity pushed the drivers to the absolute edge. A few drivers had to pull off due to heat exhaustion. The drivers that did manage to finish need help getting out of their racecars and additional hydration before moving. It was just brutal on the race track.
Dasher Lawless held a sponsor/vendor appreciation day where over 50 people were on hand to share in the experience at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. For many it was their first time in the pit area and seeing a NASCAR Race up close. Sam Bowser Director of Manufacturing at Dasher Lawless summarized, “This was absolutely fantastic. The engines were so loud you could not hear yourself talk. And it was just cool to be at such an iconic race track. It was a great afternoon.”
